Lessons for Kids in Marin

Music:  I have been really lucky to have my kids take music lessons through school.  I have used some piano and guitar teachers over the years but don’t have a current recommendation.  Will be searching anew when Ben gets a little older.

Gymnastics:  Lots of clubs out there.  I’ve been to many of these gyms for birthday parties but really only regularly went to Cal Star, where they had a power play card allowing for lots of schedule flexibility.  My priority at the time.

Ballet:  My little one took classes at Roco and the teacher, Ashley was phenomenal.  I didn’t find the rest of the staff overly friendly.  I think they are a pretty successful group, so not really cultivating that warm fuzzy feeling.  For the really little ones we used Miss Matrisha.  She has a mommy and me movement class which was really fun.  www.matrishadance.com

Swim Lessons:

Mill Valley Community Center:  The swim lessons here are pretty good.  I would recommend a small private lesson over the group lesson.  It’s not much more expensive and the likelihood of learning is much higher.  My little guy has been in some groups where the other kids couldn’t follow directions or listen to their instructor.  Most of the time was spent on discipline rather than learning. www.cityofmillvalley.org

Osher Marin JCC:  This is a beautiful facility with an indoor and outdoor pool.  For some reason the timing didn’t work out as well for me.  I also didn’t like that sometimes they would switch out my teacher and they spent the lesson figuring out my son’s skill level. www.marinjcc.org

Ann Curtis School of Swimming:  This is where my son turned a corner.  The lessons here are professional and there is a clear system for teaching.  The instructors are also monitored by the boss during the lesson.  The downside; they only offer lessons in the summer.   www.anncurtis.com

Kayak and Paddle Board Rentals

My boys used Seatrek in Sausalito.  It was $20 for an hour.  Super easy, super fun.  No fuss, no muss.

Horseback riding

I have not had the opportunity to go horseback riding here at home, but these were the local stables that I found.
