Mill Valley was the setting of the 1980 comedy THE SERIAL which mocked the hot tub, vegetarian, peacock feather lifestyle of Marinites. Mill Valley is the epitome of Marin living with its center being at the downtown Book Depot at the base of Mount Tam. Mill Valley has plenty of homes nestled in the woods, and flat areas with easier access to shops and the freeway.
Mill Valley has a lot of custom homes, along with plenty of beautiful traditional picket fence houses. The library and Mill Valley Community Center are very active with plenty of programs for all ages offered year round. Access in and out of Mill Valley is limited to two streets, East Blithedale and Miller Avenue.
The local high school is Tamalpais High School which was recently renovated and “feels like a tree house” according to my son, Max. Like students in Sausalito, the option to transfer to Redwood or Drake is available.
The famous Dipsea trail race starts at Old Mill Park in Mill Valley and being at the base of Mount Tamalpais allows locals to easy access to beautiful hiking trails in the Redwoods. The Mill Valley Film Festival has been an annual international event since 1977. This eleven day festival succeeds in bringing new American, Independent, and Foreign films to our community.
